IAFP 2008 - Another Excellent Meeting

Des Moines, Iowa, (August 28, 2008).  IAFP 2008 was another successful meeting for the International Association for Food Protection. The three-day meeting concluded August 6, 2008 with an international audience of more than 1,800 food safety professionals representing 39 countries, 45 states, and 8 Canadian provinces. The meeting has earned recognition as the leading food safety conference.

Dr. Russell S. Flowers, Silliker Group Corporation, Homewood, IL, opened IAFP 2008 with the Ivan Parkin Lecture at Sunday's Opening Session entitled "Utility of Microbiological Testing for Food Safety Assurance: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly".

IAFP 2008 featured a well-diversified program of over 500 presentations including 25 symposia, 6 round-tables, 88 technical and 365 poster presentations.  The John H. Silliker Lecture entitled "From Wild Pigs in Spinach to Tilapia in Asia: The Challenges of the Food Safety Community" featured Dr. Michael P. Doyle, University of Georgia, Griffin, Georgia, speaking on Wednesday afternoon. Three pre-meeting workshops were conducted to provide additional educational opportunities for attendees. Representatives from 105 companies exhibited equipment and the latest innovations in food safety services.

IAFP's Awards Banquet honored excellence in food safety by recognizing 27 individuals and organizations with awards. The evening concluded with the gavel presentation to Incoming President, J. Stan Bailey, bioMérieux, Inc., Athens, Georgia.

IAFP 2009 will be held in Grapevine on July 12-15, 2009.
