International Food Allergen Icons

Purpose:
The purpose of the International Food Allergen Icons is to provide an easily recognizable symbol for use in the food manufacturing and food warehouse environments.

Copyright:
The International Association for Food Protection holds copyright to the International Food Allergen Icons. Any use beyond those accepted uses outlined below must be approved in writing prior to such use.

Icons are provided "AS IS " without warranties of any kind, including IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTIBILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

Uses:
The allergen icons are available for use in the food industry at plant and warehouse locations to:

  • Identify tools used for cleaning specific allergens.
  • Identify the presence of specific allergens in ingredients (i.e. place a milk icon sticker on a pallet of bagged ingredients which contains milk powder).
  • Provide a visual aid to enhance training where language barriers exist.
  • Identification of a plant area, to indicate the presence of a specific allergen.

The use of these allergen icons on retail packages violates the copyright agreement and is forbidden.

Commercial Uses:
The allergen icons are available for licensing (a fee-based license) to companies or organizations wanting to produce stickers, signs, posters or similar products for commercial distribution for use in manufacturing plants. Requests must be made to the International Association for Food Protection.

Availability:
A CD containing the International Food Allergen Icons and a CD containing the International Food Safety Icons in high-resolution formats for premium quality reproductions is available for $25 including shipping and handling. Orders may be placed at the IAFP Web site. Low-resolution file formats of the Icons are available for free downloading from the IAFP Web site.
