C. B. Shogren Memorial Award

Awarded to the Affiliate demonstrating exceptional overall achievement in promoting the mission of the International Association for Food Protection (“to provide food safety professionals worldwide with a forum to exchange information on protecting the food supply”).

Award Criteria

The C. B. Shogren Memorial Award is given to the Affiliate demonstrating exceptional overall achievement in promoting the mission of the International Association for Food Protection (“to provide food safety professionals worldwide with a forum to exchange information on protecting the food supply”). The award consists of a plaque and a $500 honorarium sponsored by the International Association for Food Protection.

Selection and Criteria

The selection committee consists of the chair, past chair and secretary of the Affiliate Council. To be considered for this award, Affiliates should submit on Attachment B of their annual report a description (1,000 words or less) of their past year's activities, along with any supporting documents, to grow their membership, communicate with, engage and educate their members about food protection. Affiliates will be judged on the quality and quantity of their general membership activities and meetings, including attendance; communication materials; number of members; percent increase in membership; scholarships and awards given; membership promotions; collaboration with other professional organizations; donations to the IAFP Foundation; and representation at the previous year’s Affiliate Council Meeting (held during IAFP Annual Meetings). While not a requirement, strong consideration will be given to an Affiliate whose officers (beyond the requirement for the President and Delegate) are also IAFP Members.

Background

The C. B. Shogren Memorial Award is given in honor of a long-time member of the International Association for Food Protection, C. B. Shogren. Mr. Shogren was awarded an honorary life membership in 1964 and has been honored in namesake by the C. B. Shogren Memorial Award since 1972. He served as a top executive at Klenzade Products, Inc. until his retirement and was often called upon to solve problems confronting sanitarians. He was a consistent Annual Meeting attendee.
