Award Criteria
Selection and Criteria
Affiliate Awards Selection Committee Members for each award will consist of the Chair, Past Chair, and Secretary of the Affiliate Council. Selection Committee Members will recuse themselves from reviewing and judging submissions from their respective Affiliate, with a former Affiliate Council Chair to be selected to serve as an alternate judge.
To be considered for the C. B. Shogren Memorial Award, Affiliates must qualify and apply for this and at least one other Affiliate award during the current year. The Selection Committee will review all applicants for other awards and determine the recipients before reviewing all Shogren Award applications. The judges for the Shogren Award will consider how the Affiliate meets the criteria for this award and how the judges evaluated the Affiliate’s submission for at least one other Affiliate award during the current year. (NOTE: The Affiliate is not required to win one of the other Affiliate awards.) The judges will also consider how the Affiliate has demonstrated its commitment to food safety over the years.
Affiliates applying for the Shogren Award should submit on Attachment B of their Annual Report a description (1,000 words or less) of their prior year activities, along with any supporting documents, to grow their membership; communicate with, engage, and educate their members about food protection; as well as how the Affiliate has improved and/or sustained its food safety efforts during its existence. Affiliates will be judged on the quality and quantity of their general membership activities and meetings, including attendance; communication materials; number of members; percent of increase in membership since it was formed; scholarships and awards given; membership promotions; collaboration with other professional organizations; whether it has been considered and/or won other Affiliate awards in the past; and involvement in the IAFP Affiliate Council (e.g., participation at the Affiliate Council Meeting during the IAFP Annual Meeting and in online meetings during the year; submissions to be included in IAFP’s Affiliate View newsletter; sharing Affiliate Council information with Affiliate members). While not a requirement, strong consideration will be given to an Affiliate whose officers (beyond the requirement for the President and Delegate) are also active IAFP Members.
