How to Join

Involvement in committees and professional development groups (PDGs) offers Members the opportunity to share a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Members of committees and PDGs are the architects of the Association structure. They plan, develop and institute many of the Association's projects, including workshops, publications and educational sessions. Technical challenges facing the food safety industry are discussed, examined and debated. Members may volunteer to serve on any number of committees or PDGs that plan and implement activities to meet the Association's mission.

Special Committees provide support services to IAFP on a continuous basis. Individuals are recommended by the Chairperson, subject to the Executive Board's review. Membership appointments are for 2-year renewable terms. Requests for membership should be directed to the Chairperson.

2023 Board Response to Recommendations
  1. None.
2022 Board Response to Recommendations
  1. 1. Recognize that the 3-A Committee on Sanitary Procedures is a standing committee that is outlined in the bylaws and not a PDG.

Board Response: Standing committees provide operational or functional support to IAFP while Special committees provide support services to IAFP. The 3-A Committee on Sanitary Procedures fits in the definition of Special committees.

2018 Board Response to Recommendations

2017 Board Response to Recommendations
  1. 3-A is recommending the Board add a PDG specifically for FSMA.

Board Response: PDGs already cover the subject of FSMA, but if a new PDG is warranted, a group of Members can request to start a new one.

  2. 3-A is requesting the Board approve the installation of new Co-Chairpersons Carianne (Cari) EndertKlaasen, Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Brook Leguineche, Idaho State Department of Agriculture; also approve Steven Sims, FDA as Vice Chair.

2016 Board Response to Recommendations
  1. The 3-A CSP requests that the IAFP Board of Directors consider the following proposed “Mission Statement” changes in regard to this Committee. Mission: To serve as IAFP representatives to the 3-A Sanitary Standards Committee: to provide ideas for IAFP Symposia, Roundtables, White Papers, Webinars and program ideas to the 3-A Sanitary Standards Annual Meeting.

    Board Response: Agree.

2015 Board Response to Recommendations
  1. None.
2014 Board Response to Recommendations
  1. The group suggests including pet food in the IAFP scope, mission, or vision. This is based on small children possibly ingesting pet food, the storage of pet food in residential pantries with human food, and the fact that more people have pets than children.

Board Response: The IAFP Constitution sets out “food” as the Association’s focus. We welcome Members with a “pet food” focus, but do not see a need to change the scope, mission or vision at this time.

  2. The group suggests forming a new PDG for pet food.

Board Response: Members may form a PDG by requesting to the Board to hold an organizational meeting. Once it is shown that there is enough interest, the PDG can be approved.
